At Burns the Bread we use traditional bread making methods, remembering the importance of time and natural fermentation, both important ‘ingredients’ to achieve a flavoursome end product with good keeping qualities. (Not that we want our customers to keep our bread!!)

Some of our breads are produced with the inclusion of sour and overnight doughs, with many of our speciality breads gently proving throughout the night.

The majority of our breadmaking flours are milled for us by independent, family owned millers, with some speciality flours imported from France, Germany and Italy.

As an example of our range of breads, besides the traditional of white, wholemeal and malted grain, include: French Grain, Pecan Nut, Walnut, Multi-seed Sourdough, Pumpkin Seed, Seeded Country Cob with Sourdough, Sunflower Seed, Bavarian Rye, Spelt, Spelt and Rye, Soda Bread.

The ‘girls’ (the term is used loosely!) in the sandwich room start work at 4.30am to produce freshly made sandwiches from freshly baked bread and rolls. They are continually developing new ‘weird and wonderful’ combinations and love experimenting with different ingredients. They use the unsuspecting Mr Burns as ‘guinea pig’ for these experiments, and on occasions he has notice that it is something new!
The latest creation, roast chicken, Milano salami, with tomato and rocket – lovely!

Sandwiches that are made using spelt breads and rolls are becoming more popular by the day, and are an additional bonus for our increasing number of customers that find themselves with a wheat intolerance.

The ‘sandwich girls’ are also responsible for producing are popular finger buffets which can be tailor made for each occasion and delivered directly to the customer.

We pride ourselves on the wide variety of ‘naughty but nice’ cakes and pastries that include the old favourites such as do’ nuts, Chelsea’s, Danish pastries etc etc.

Our muffins are extremely popular and include a wide range of fillings and flavours such as: chocolate, chocolate and orange, chocolate chip, toffee, toffee apple, rhubarb, raspberry, blackcurrant, lemon and poppy seed, blueberry and spelt with carrots and sultanas.

Once again, a selection of spelt products in our cake range include: shortbreads, fruit and mince pies, date slices and biscuits.

Our Somerset cider and walnut cakes are extremely popular, as are our unique Torsy Moorsy luxury fruit cake. The Torsy Moorsy cake, which was developed from an old recipe found whilst renovating the bakery, is sold under the Burns the Bread Grand Tor
brand. It is a rich fruit cake with the inclusion of locally produced Somerset ‘scrumpy’ and Cheddar cheese. The cake is sold in a specially designed ‘Grand Tor’ tin, and has become a popular ‘Gift from Glastonbury’ product.

Our Christmas cakes and puddings are superb, and our Christmas hampers make an ideal gift. We have various sizes of hampers, containing a range of produce from our bakery.

Because of constant demand, we have re-introduced our popular made to order birthday cakes.
