The initiative that we have implemented is to invite members of the surrounding community into our business in order for them to learn about the ethos behind the name, BURNS THE BREAD. During these visits we demonstrate to our guests how much we value feedback from our customers and how we act upon suggestions with the aim of continually improving our product quality and range and customer service.

The bakery visits usually take place in the evenings during the months from September to April. We take groups of 16 and 20 people at a time, ranging from Women’s Institutes, Rotary Clubs, Scouts, or just groups of friends. The evening begins with a glass of wine (Coke for the Scouts!) and a brief history of BURNS THE BREAD, where the business is today and our plans for the future. We talk about our staff, our product range and our programme of continuous improvement.

Next it’s off to the pastry room with hairnets and ‘pinnies’ for BURNS THE BREAD goes Generation Game! Each person gets to crimp four pasties which generally results in much fun, laughter and mickey taking!! While the pasties are baking we continue the evening with a tour of the bakery, covering all departments. This demonstrates how the bakery runs on a day to day basis.

When the tour is complete we return to the meeting room for a BURNS THE BREAD buffet and a Q & A session. The pasties are judged and prizes awarded (BURNS THE BREAD vouchers). Everyone takes home a ‘goody’ bag containing a speciality loaf, a cider and walnut cake and of course their very own hand crimped pasties.
We make no charge for these evenings, however, we do ask for donations for our chosen charity, St. Margaret’s Hospice.

We feel that these evenings are a win/win/win situation. Our customers win, St. Margaret’s Hospice wins and BURNS THE BREAD wins.
